About IRAC

The Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC) is a global technical group dedicated to preserving the effectiveness of insecticides and supporting sustainable pest management.

IRAC has been operating since 1984 and brings together experts from across the crop protection and public health industries to provide a coordinated response to the development of resistance in insect and mite pests.

Operating as a specialist technical group of CropLife International, IRAC works through a global network of international, regional and country committees to monitor resistance challenges, share knowledge and develop practical resistance management guidance.

Mission & Objectives

IRAC works to prolong the effectiveness of insecticides and acaricides by reducing the risk and impact of resistance. Our aim is to support sustainable agriculture and improved public health by:

1

Improving understanding

Communication, education and technical resources about insecticide resistance

2

Promote effective strategies

Supporting the development and adoption of resistance management strategies

3

Supporting responsible use

Help maintain effective pest control for the long term

Proactive resistance management is central to IRAC’s approach. Preventing resistance from developing is typically more effective than attempting to restore susceptibility after resistance has become established.

IRAC focuses exclusively on technical recommendations and guidance. Individual companies remain responsible for their own commercial strategies.

Structure and organisation

IRAC is made up of technical experts from agrochemical and public health organisations, working collaboratively through international committees, specialist teams and regional groups.

International Committees

IRAC International coordinates activities across this global network, supporting local teams in responding to emerging resistance challenges and sharing best practice worldwide.

Partnerships

Global federation representing the plant science industry, supporting sustainable agriculture through crop protection, biotechnology and seed innovation.

A comprehensive global resource for arthropod pesticide resistance, with access to thousands of documented resistance cases dating back to 1914.

Works to prolongs the effectiveness of fungicides liable to encounter resistance problems and to limit crop losses should resistance occur.

Protects crop yields and quality worldwide with comprehensive weed resistance information and best practice advice.

Provides practical resistance management guidance for UK growers, advisers and regulators.
