Cotton
Cotton requires a warm, dry climate and is grown worldwide in more than 80 countries. Of the whole cotton harvest, 80% is ‘upland cotton’ (Gossypium hirsutum) and 15% ‘ sea island cotton’ (G. barbadense). The two other species, ‘levant cotton’ (G. herbaceum) and ‘Indian cotton’ (G. arboreum) account for the remaining 5%.
